Random London II

Before going and joining a proper photo walk last month, I tried my hand at some solo street photography. Buoyed by seeing my relatively successful attempts at street photography from last year’s London Fashion Weekend, when I found myself lurking outside a London coffee shop last week I took it upon myself to play about some more.

These two chaps siting outside this shop caught my eye, and I really love the brickwork of the shop itself. Annoyingly some woman’s head got in the way for this shot, but this second shot is a bit cleaner.

For a handful of these shots I’ve used a cross-processing filter. The look seems to fit the images from some reason.

Such as often seems to be the way when I try surreptitious street photography, I appear to have been spotted.

Afternoon gentlemen.

The guy outside one of the other shops fortunately wasn’t paying any attention.

And when his friend showed up he brought a hipster filter with him.

I really loved the brickwork of these buildings. It came across really well with the sharpness of the lens, especially in this shot with the purple uplights.

This was clearly an area of this sort of design, as seen by this lovely shop sign.

Buildings aside, there was also this bicycle.

A couple of weeks earlier, I found myself in London with some friends around Chinese New Year. I’d visited the new year London celebrations a couple of years previously but this time we just happened to be passing through so didn’t really capture much of the celebrations

What I did capture was a few shots of people photographing the festivities, which is one of my tropes.

My journey home was through Waterloo Station as ever. This time I decided to have the courage to take some photographs of people at the station waiting for their trains (usually I either don’t have the plums or I’m passing through in a rush).

I also took the opportunity to photograph some bits of the station, something else I’m often too shy to do as well.

This extended to photographing the platforms.

Sometimes also in colour.

I’m really getting into shooting around London. I’ve done it on and off for years for this blog but I’m getting into it a bit more. At some point I’ll start carrying my camera into work and going for lunchtime walks again.
