Six Years

It was six years ago to the day I sat down and almost on a whim started Creative Splurges with a simple introductory post. Since then, every year on January 14th I’ve marked the occasion with posts of similarly simple natures. If you take a look at the history of my anniversary posts you’ll see there is little I can say that hasn’t already been said, including making highlight of the fact that there isn’t anything new to highlight in these posts (and next year, even that will be referenced in an ever-escalating meta-snowball).

The last year has not been a great one, as I pointed out in my annual year-end roundup. Only ten posts in the whole year is nowhere near where I want to be in terms of putting out content, to the extent that I didn’t think it worthwhile to make a year in pictures post for 2016. My main resolution for 2017 is to not have a year that bad again, and so I am working to rekindle that spark of inspiration that caused the founding of this blog.

My annual tradition on these anniversary posts is to post what people younger and hipper than me would call a mirror selfie (or probably just a selfie at this point) in the same bathroom mirror, the idea being that each subsequent year’s picture would hopefully showcase 12 months of improvement in my photography.

Having not shot a lot this year, I’ve bent that rule a bit. I’m still posting a selfie, but not one taken in the mirror. I have been playing about with light in various ways lately (something you’ll see properly in an upcoming post), but it does represent the latest in both my shooting and editing (although you will have to put with my face for another consecutive year). My favourite is below; the header image of this post above is a close second.

And, much like previous years, all that’s left for me to do is thank you for continuing to read this site.
