From the Vaults: the Eye

Note: from time to time I release older material which I think is worthy of viewing. This will all be tagged under the ‘From the Vaults’ category and will be clearly titled as such.

This is an image I created a couple of years ago as part of an internal project at work. Although this image currently adorns our department’s website, I made sure I retained the copyright by snapping it with my own camera on my own time, and not on company property. Hence, the image is under copyright and not released under Creative Commons, unlike most of my images.

This remains one of the images I’m most proud of. I know it’s a little clichéd to create an image in black and white with a woman’s eye in full colour, but I think it can hold its own against many versions you’ll see (I’d also like to add, there is no colour-adjusting in this image, save for making it black and white – that is her natural eye colour).

I’m fully aware that you can see me reflected in the iris, however I feel my luck in getting the lens near-perfectly centred over the pupil creates an interesting effect.

These days, I sometimes find myself wondering how it would’ve turned out if I had access to a macro lens. I’ve had my eye on one (no pun intended – I’d like to think I could come up with a far better pun if I was meaning to) for a while.
